Ocean Awareness Initiative
The goal of the Ocean Awareness and Advocacy Initiative is to respond to issues that are immediately affecting the overall health of the MBNMS
and the world’s oceans and are important to the local community on a campaign basis.
Through this initiative, SOS strives to be a community leader by activating specific community members to
respond to issues, coordinate local responses to issues, and build leaders within our community.
Sanctuary Steward Program:
Building marine conservation leaders in our community by recruiting and training a group of dedicated volunteers.
The volunteers are provided with an extensive education and training program about current threats to ocean health and the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
Sanctuary stewards assist SOS in the implementation of our programs, campaigns and organizational operations and are an asset in our cause to care for the marine environment.
