Advocating for a Healthy Ocean
Advocating for pollution prevention around the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary is a driving force at Save Our Shores. Save Our Shores works with our Stewards, volunteers, community members, key stakeholders and local leaders to respond to current ocean issues.
Our Advocacy campaigns target problematic pieces of pollution that negatively effect our marine environment and then develop ways to combat it in our community.
Needless to say, we've been busy.
The key issues Save Our Shores is tackling today:
- Launching the Central Coast Sanctuary Alliance to ban single-use plastic bags all around the Sanctuary
- Local bans on single-use plastic bags
- Local bans on polystyrene (Styrofoam) take-out containers
- Taking on cigarette butt litter one BaitTank at a time
- Promoting sustainable seafood - the only choice that supports sustainable fisheries
- Supporting Marine Protected Areas, our underwater State Parks
- Clean Boating and DockWalkers - helping to keep small oil spills at bay
- Fighting offshore oil drilling - the founding roots of Save Our Shores
- Building community advocates through the Sanctuary Steward Docent program
- Pollution Prevention on the Fourth of July 4th Holiday weekend
- Pollution Prevention on Annual Coastal Cleanup Day
